A French Faux Pas!

I had a conversation recently with a friend who is a fellow Zionist,  & in the course of that conversation it emerged that he had never heard of Ilan Halimi, or of his brutal murder which emphasised both the anti-semetic nature of French society and it's increasing Islamisization.  So, my surprise aside ... here is his story!

The abduction and murder in Paris of a young Jewish man by a gang of Muslim immigrants calling themselves 'the Barbarians' shocked the whole of France, Europe & me in 2006, when it occurred.  The leniency of the sentences handed down to it's perpetrators shocked me even more.  The French State, perhaps in a bid to shake off possible anti-semetic assertions, vowed to appeal this  in the case of 14 of the 25 gang members.   Since then .... Silence!

The murder of a 23-year-old cell-phone salesman, Ilan Halimi, took place over three weeks, during which he was tortured while his captors tried to extract a ransom from his family.  Halimi was lured to his death by a woman he had met in his telephone store. They met up late on the night of January 20th, 2006,  in one of Paris's southern suburbs, Bagneux, on what he thought was a date.  The next day, his parents received an e-mail telling them their son had been abducted and would be released on payment of about $540,000. In order to convince Halimi's parents their son had been kidnapped, the abductors borrowed a trick from Islamist kidnappers who abduct Westerners in the Middle East  ~ They sent a picture of the young man being threatened by a gun and holding a newspaper to prove the date and time.

More e-mail demands and pictures of Halimi were sent to his parents in subsequent days. The family reported the kidnapping to the Parisian police, who advised them to begin bargaining with their son's captors. There were telephone calls too .... Ilan's uncle, Rafi Halimi, reported that "the gang phoned the family on several occasions and made them listen to the recitation of verses from the Koran, while Ilan's tortured screams could be heard in the background."  At one time the abductors agreed to lower their ransom to about $120,000, then even dropped their demand to $60,000.  According to a police source, "This behaviour was very different from what is usually expected from abductors motivated by greed."    Both the judge in charge of the investigation, Corinne Goetzmann, and the French attorney general, Pascal Clement, said that a principal motive of Halimi's attackers was anti-Semitism. Under French law, racial or religious prejudice or hatred is an aggravating circumstance in a trial for murder.

On February 11th, four days after the abductors stopped communicating with the family, Halimi was found, still alive, not far from a railway line at Sainte-Genevieve-des-Bois, about 15 kilometers south of Bagneux.  He was naked, handcuffed, and bleeding profusely. He was incapable of speaking. His entire body ~ or "80% of it," according to police ~ had been butchered.  He died of his wounds on the way to the hospital, just a few minutes after he was discovered.   The head of the fire department who was called to the scene, a man with decades of experience, almost fainted when he saw the victim.  The last thing Youssef Fofana, the lead torturer,  did was slit Ilan's throat,  twice, and pour a flammable liquid on him to try to set him on fire.  But this did not burn him to death, because Ilan walked for perhaps one hour, trying still to find a way to live.  This was at the culmination of three weeks of torture.

Three weeks of unimaginable torture. Three weeks. So many clues. So many guilty animals partaking in the continuing torture in their "homemade concentration camp."   Twenty-three people participated in torturing Ilan. Another twenty were involved indirectly. The custodian of the building gave them the key to an apartment where they said they wanted to "keep someone." ??????

French journalist Guy Millière reported that  "the screams must have been loud because the torture was especially atrocious: the thugs cut bits off the flesh of the young man, they cut his fingers and ears, they burned him with acid, and in the end poured flammable liquid on him and set him on fire."

Horrible tortures. Horrible torturers.  One of the torturers would go to work at a TV station every day and come back to partake in the torture. The girls who lured Halimi into the trap knew he had been kidnapped. They knew Youssef Fofana, the leader of  'the Barbarians',  was extremely violent.  They knew Ilan was still in his hands three weeks later. All they had to do was make an anonymous phone call to the police. No one would have known.  They did not do it.  No neighbour thought to say to the police that something strange was going on in their building.   The police told the family not to say a word.  The Jewish community was not warned when prior attempts to kidnap Jewish men had failed.  The Jewish community was not warned before the successful attempt. Even the one member of the gang who dropped out because he was shocked by their violence did not call the police.

There are precedents of Islamist terrorists luring young non-Muslims to their deaths, often over the Internet offering the prospect of sex or romance. A few years ago an Israeli teenager near Ramallah, Israel, was murdered after falling for such a ruse.  Also,  the French police released a photo-fit picture of a young woman who had acted as bait in other similar kidnappings cases as well as Ilan's.  The woman, identified by police simply as "Audrey L"  has been involved in several "honeypot" operations before but had never quite realized what they were all about???   Her close friends,  who recognized her from the police picture,  persuaded her to surrenderbut she was given a suspended sentence for her involvement!    The French attorney general believed that Halimi was targeted "because he was Jewish and thus, as a Jew, presumed to be rich."  One teenage gang member admitted to having put out a cigarette on Halimi's face "because he didn't like Jews."

French government and law enforcement have done everything in their power to obscure the Islamic Jew-hatred that led these Muslims to commit this crime.  The corrupt media, aligned with the jihad forces, has long blacked out the truth about 'Halimi's homemade concentration camp' and the inconceivable horrors that were suffered by this French Jew, chosen by Islam's soldiers for unimaginable torture.  They covered up the religious aspects of this depraved barbarity.  Law enforcement did as well.   No one said anything about the Qu'ran's statement that the Jews are the Muslims' worst enemies.  No one referenced Muhammad's words ~ "The Hour will not be established until you fight with the Jews, and the stone behind which a Jew will be hiding will say, 'O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me, so kill him.'"   Never was there heard anything about the Islamic tradition that says: "When judgment day arrives, Allah will give every Muslim a Jew or Christian to kill, so that the Muslim will not enter into hell fire."

Ilan Halimi was a victim of terrorism.  Islamic terrorism!

Anti-Semitism in the Muslim dominated suburbs of Paris and other French cities is all-encompassing.   As Nidra Poller related in The Wall Street Journal,   "One of the most troubling aspects of this affair is the probable involvement of relatives and neighbours, beyond the immediate circle of the gang [of kidnappers], who were told about the Jewish hostage and dropped in to participate in the torture."

It appears that Ilan Halimi's murderers had some connection to Hamas.   French President,  Nicolas Sarkozy said that police found propaganda published by the Palestinian Charity Committee or the CBSP at the home of one of the suspects. The European Jewish Press reported that Israel has alleged that the organization is a front group for Palestinian terrorists and that in August 2003 the US government froze the organization's US bank accounts, accusing it of links with Hamas.

Halimi's family alleges that throughout the 20 days of Ilan's captivity, the French police refused to take the anti-Semitic motivations of the kidnappers into account. The investigators insisted on viewing his kidnap as a garden variety kidnap-for-ransom criminal case, which they said generally involves no threat to the life of the captive. The police maintained their refusal to investigate the anti-Semitic motivations of the kidnappers in spite of the fact that in their e-mail and telephone communications with Ilan's family,  his captors repeatedly referred to his Judaism, and on at least one occasion recited verses from the Qu'ran while Ilan was heard screaming in agony in the background.  The family alleges that if the police had been willing to acknowledge that Ilan was abducted because he was Jewish, they would have recognized that his life was  "in clear and immediate danger and acted with greater urgency..."

Had the murdered man been a Muslim, or had a Qu'ran been found discarded on near a railroad station (as was a dying Ilan Halimi),  Paris and cities in the rest of Europe would have been burning now.  The gang appears to have been operating since 2004 when they reportedly attempted a series of kidnappings of journalists and known figures, many of them Jews. Most horrifically, the collective sadism which the Muslim residents in the building showed (by not alerting police to the crime),  and the complicity of family and friends of the killers,  is further proof that Muslims are living in a parallel universe, and that exposure to life in the West has not mitigated their murderous Islamist intent.  Halimi's Muslim killers were French born, and behaved in the same way as Al Zarqawi's henchmen in Iraq, or Gilad Shalit's torturers in Gaza.  They were also directly tied to Hamas and targetted Halimi because he was a Jew.

IT IS WAY TOO LATE FOR ILAN HALIMI .... IS IT TOO LATE FOR FRANCE??????   OR EUROPE ??????

I want to comment further on this issue, but I obviously need another blog to apply wider lessons or applications as this blog is already long & it would be just too unwieldy to do here!!

  1. I am enraged but not surprised at this. That poor young man. Sadly he is dead and went through a hell most of us B"H will never know. I just pray his blood is avenged 10 fold. People wonder why some us Jews think "radically". The fact is the only way to combat these thugs is to root them out and make examples out of them.
This also shows Jews will never be safe outside of Israel. I know Israel is not perfect but at least here we can defend ourselves for the most part.
Again I am both angered but sadly not surprised.

  2. If Ilan were my son, every one of those islamic pigs would have never been seen again and each would have suffered a death 1000 times worse.
This is the first I have heard of this.
There is no room for bastards like this in free society.

  3. The world would be a much better place if all of those sick pigs were justly executed. Islam encourages crimes against humanity. No group, nor era, of Islam has ever been, nor ever will be, peaceful. On the contrary, they are not for peace, but for war. Conquest, control, and dominion are the key words. However, there are some Muslims who don't believe in violence. I pray that they would come to know the G-d of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I also pray that G-d hastens the day when Messiah returns and straightens everything out on this planet.

  4. Mr. Fofana was the only defendant convicted of murder at his trial & most of the other defendants received sentences significantly lighter than what the Prosecution recommeded. Some only received Suspended Sentences. What does this imply for Islamic recevidism???

Even thinking about the details of the death suffered by Ilan, whose only 'crime' was being a Jewish man who wanted a date, evokes tears. Jews don’t believe in hell, they believe in Vengence. Ilan has been denied Justice, so I do hope that the bastards who tortured Ilan Halimi for three long weeks will get theirs!!

  5. And you know what .... Maybe I can comment further without needing a new blog to do so!

lan Halimi's barbarous murder in France should awaken all Jews to the most significant truth of our times: Today, every Jew in the world is on the front lines of war.

As was the case 70 years ago, every Jew today is a target for our enemies, who shout from every soapbox and prove at every opportunity that their goal is the annihilation of the Jewish people. From 1933-1945, the enemy was Nazi Germany. Today, one enemy is political Islam. Its call for jihad aimed at annihilating the Jews and dominating the world is answered by millions of people throughout the world.

Among the lessons of the Holocaust, there is one that is almost never mentioned. That lesson is that it is almost possible to exterminate the Jews. (Ha'Shem will never let it happen totally. Ha'Shem keeps his promises!) The fact that the Holocaust happened proves that it is almost possible for the Jewish people to be wiped off the map ~ just as Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Hamas leader Khaled Mashal promise they will do.

The story of Ilan Halimi's murder at the hands of a terrorist gang of French Muslims brings to the surface the various pathologies now converging to make the prospect of annihilating all Jews seem possible to our enemies. First, there are the murderers who took such apparent pleasure and felt such pride in the fact that for 20 days they tortured their Jewish hostage to death.

Two further majorly important points strike me ... the French government waited an entire week after Ilan was found naked, with cuts and burns over 80 percent of his body by a train station in suburban Paris, before acknowledging the anti-Semitic nature of the crime. According to the press reports, the French government was at least partially motivated to suppress the issue of anti-Semitism because it feared inflaming the passions of the French Muslims who make up between 10 to 13 percent of the French population and comprise a quarter of the population under 25 years old. This is an appalling danger of creeping Islam with their code of Sharia & is replicated throughout the European Continent!

And the other majorly important point, perhaps the most important one of all, is Israel's reaction to the attrocity. In short, there has been absolutely no official Israeli reaction to the abduction, torture and murder of a Jew in France by a predominantly Muslim terrorist gang that kidnapped, tortured and murdered him because he was a Jew.

No Israeli government minister, official or spokesman has condemned his murder to my knowledge. No Israeli official has demanded that the French authorities investigate why the police refused to take anti-Semitism into account during Ilan's captivity. No Israeli official flew to Paris to participate in Ilan's funeral or any other memorial or demonstration in his memory. The Foreign Ministry's Web site made no mention of his murder. WHY?????

Ilan's mother has told reporters that her son had planned to make aliya soon and was just staying in France to save money to finance his move to Israel. Why did Official Israel not Claim vengence for it's son????

Sir Martin Gilbert, perhaps the premium preeminent British historian of World War II, has said, "The interesting thing about history is that it always repeats itself."

As was the case in World War II, today the Jewish people in Israel and throughout the world are being targeted for annihilation by an enemy bent on world domination. Ilan Halimi's monstrous murder is just the latest sign of this disturbing reality. Today, as 70 years ago, the Jews are disserved by poor and weak leaders who refuse to see the dangers & ensure the safety of their people.

Shall we allow this pernicious repetition of history?????

  6. The nature of this crime is no surprise. The nature of the criminals even less surprising.

The surprising thing (or perhaps NOT surprising thing to those who think that France is already a lost cause) is the utter depravity of this Dog & Pony show put on by the French Ministry of Justice. That is the REAL tragedy here. Crime is not easily preventable. The PERVERSION OF JUSTICE, however, IS preventable. And their failure is an absolute obscenity.

  7. I also forgot to say that it is the Islamic agenda to conquer the lands of Europe for Allah. The Caliphate advanced some centuries ago to the midway point of Spain, but now by flooding the European continent with Immigrants, & slowly advancing Sharia laws in these lands they plan a much more complete conquering. Leaving a choice of conversion or 'dhimmitude' for European citizenry, unless of course you are a 'Jew' when annilation becomes the agenda!!

  8. I agree totally, Greg, that the failure of Justice in this case is astounding. If it were in my power to amend this I would do so immediately, despite any personal cost!

The fact that this case has not been emblazoned on the Front pages of the world's media is a shame & a travesty .... perhaps I can try to amend that at least!

  9. I agree Pana. There is a DEVASTATING failure to report this kind of news lately. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I had never heard of it before today.

  10. I'm finding this repeated to me many, many times today, it's almost a refrain!!

It seems to be only in Europe that it is in any way known, & then only by Jews who remember. I do know that Caroline Glick ran an editiorial in the JPost at the time but Shame, Shame on the Israeli Government for not splashing it all over the world media & advocating for Ilan Halimi, who was saving to make Alyiah at the time of his Murder!

  11. Like I've said elsewhere, weakness is provocative to these thugs. It is a DEVASTATING mistake to ignore this. It is a BIGGER mistake to go soft on it. It will only inspire and embolden the criminal-terrorist thugs.

And as Moshe wrote elsewhere, CLEARLY pecuniary interests are NOT the prime motivation. There are so many EASIER and MORE PROFITABLE ways to commit economic crime. Clearly their main agendum was torture, terror, and murder.

  12. It is beyond belief that these barbarians got light sentences. I am sick and tired of islam and its thugs controlling the countries they end up in. And the government of France is sad, very sad and spineless...but they are not known for bravery. Israel should be ashamed also for not making this a world-wide news story every minute, every day story on world-wide news. As far as apartment dwellers not calling for help, they are scum. Maybe they were of the same ilk. Maybe not. Whatever they were, they were cowards and scum and what goes around comes around. The Jews will not be destroyed. Am Y'Israel Chai and G-d bless Ilan Halimi. May the torturers get what's coming to them 100-fold.

  13. Referencing your article:

"Had the murdered man been a Muslim, or had a Qu'ran been found discarded on near a railroad station (as was a dying Ilan Halimi), Paris and cities in the rest of Europe would have been burning now." .......as I've said so many times in my life, the only way to get attention is to make noise...The only way to fight bully, barbarian less-than animal plant-life is to meet them on their own psych-turf...two can play the same game...or else it will never end.

  14. I wish the Jewish community would mobilize revenge squads and do what the French judicial system is unwilling to do: stalk Ilan's torturers/killers and execute them.
